Motorola Defy has GPU clock control now

Motorola has rightly names this Phone as "Defy", the phone was launched with Eclair (Android 2.1) by Motorola and later upgraded to Froyo (Android 2.2) officially. Since then xda community has been keeping this phone alive with all updates from GingerBread (Android 2.3 ) to JellyBean+ (Android 4.3). Hate's off to the XDA team specifically Quarx. The latest addition to these updates is Clock Control of the GPU. 

What does this mean?

Similar to CPUs GPU ( Graphics Processing Unit ) is another processor which is responsible for driving display related stuff. It runs on a predefined clock speed. If you can control the clock you can directly control the performance and power consumption of the chip. In real world scenario it means increase/decreased refresh rates of the screen and increase/decrease in the battery consumption of the device.

TVS Motors unveils new Scooter Jupiter

TVS Motors have unveiled their new scooter Jupiter yesterday.

Jupiter is a 110cc scooter priced at Rs, 44,200 /- ex-showroom Delphi. Jupiter adds to their product line of Scooty Pep and Wego targetting male buyers. Its fuel efficiency is expected to be at 62kmpl.

Installing CM7 on Defy which was flashed with TMobile ROM - mts_jordan-eng 2.1-update1 Jordan_U3_97.21.51_GNPO 1307943892 test-keys

Ensure that you are able to boot using the TMobile ROM. In case if you feel you have bricked your Defy refer this blog.

• Install this SBF using RSDLite ( Make sure you have a SIM else you won't be able enter into home screen )
• Upon successful boot up your Defy will be with Froyo Kernel
• Enable "USB Debugging"
• Root it with SuperOneClick 2.1 ( Note: 2.2 doesn't work here )
• Install BootMenu using 2ndInitDefy 2.0  ( 2.3 doesn't work here )
• Reboot and install your favourite CM7 Build - Grab you copy from here.

Recovering a Defy flashed with TMobile ROM - "mts_jordan-eng 2.1-update1 Jordan_U3_97.21.51_GNPO 1307943892 test-keys"

WARNING: You shouldn't be flashing this SBF. It will remove the downgrade capabilities from your Defy. Any attempt to flash any other SBF will leave your Phone in bricked condition (ie., you won't get any display on Power On )

Here are the steps to recover your bricked Defy ( Tested on Green Lens and should work RED as well )

1. Ensure that your Battery is fully charged using another Defy or a Portable Battery Charger 
2. In case you are left with only your phone connect it to a PC/Laptop and if you get a white light leave it in that condition over night. This will charge your battery
3. Hold Vol Up and press the Power Key. Hold it for 10 seconds you won't be getting any display, but should be able to see the backlight lighting up.
4. Connect your phone to your PC/Laptop using the USB cable 
5. PC/Laptop should detect the phone as "Motorola Flash Interface", if not make sure you have installed these drivers.
6. Open RSDLite and flash this SBF ( Until this point you won't be seeing any display on the phone )
7. Once RSDLite starts flashing you should be able to see some message on the screen "SW Update In Progress"
8. Wait until RSDLite completes its operation and reboots the phone.
9. If the Phone doesn't reboot by itself remove the battery and insert after 30 secs and let the phone boot
10. Wait until the phone boots up.. You will be on Android Froyo Now.

Note:- On my laptop I faced a peculiar behaviour. RSDLite detects the phone only when its connected to the first USB Port on the right side of the laptop.

Netgear DGN 2200v3 Tweaks

Listing down some of the tweaks for Netgear DGN2200v3 Router. 

• Telnet Backdoor ( Telnet Enable) - http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=debug - This will enable telnet port on the router and you can use a standard telnet client or putty  to login to the router. Username and Password will be "admin" and the respective password. Note: Replace 192.168.0.1 with IP address of your router in case if you have changed it already.
• To enable blinking WLAN LED upon data flow

• Enable Telnet backdoor
• login to the router using a telnet client 
• Execute below commands

• mount -o remount,rw /

• cd /usr/etc

• echo "/etc/rc.custom &" >> rcS

• echo "#!/bin/sh " >> rc.custom

• echo "#Customer Startup Script" >> rc.custom

• echo "sleep 60" >> rc.custom

• echo "/bin/wl ledbh 3 7" >> rc.custom

• chmod 755 rc.custom

• Reboot the router 

• To enable blinking Internet LED upon data flow
• Enable Telnet backdoor
• login to the router using a telnet client 
• Execute below commands

• mount -o remount,rw /

• cd /usr/etc/ppp

• echo "/sbin/echo 0301 > /proc/led" >> ip-up

• echo "/sbin/echo 0300 > /proc/led" >> ip-down

• Reboot the router

• Configuring Transmission Torrent Client
• You should be running amod2200 ROM which has Transmission Torrent Client built in
• For Transmission Torrent Client to work an external storage device is needed ( USB Thumb drive or Hard Disk should be connected to the USB port of the router
• First drive will be detected as "U" drive within the router
• Create a directory structure as below under the root folder. Below commands assume the USB device is detected as "U" drive on a windows machine

• mkdir "U:\transmission"

• mkdir "U:\torrent"

• mkdir "U:\torrent\downloads"

• mkdir "U:\torrent\start"

• mkdir "U:\torrent\temp"



•  Alternatively creating the same directory structure from within the router ( Assuming the USB device is detected as "U" drive )





mkdir /mnt/shares/U/torrents/

mkdir /mnt/shares/U/transmission

mkdir /mnt/shares/U/downloads

mkdir /mnt/shares/U/start

mkdir /mnt/shares/U/temp

• start and stop torrent client one's. This step will create a standard settings.json file under "transmission" directory
• Execute below client to start and stop the client from within the router
• cd /etc/amod/init.d
• ./torrent start
• ./torrent stop
• Edit the "transmission/settings.json" file and below lines using your favourite editor ( Firmware has nano editor build in which is as easy as a notepad to use )

• watch-dir-enabled": true"

• start-added-torrents": true,

• "trash-original-torrent-files": true,

• "incomplete-dir-enabled": true,

• "download-dir": "/mnt/shares/U/torrents/downloads",

• "incomplete-dir": "/mnt/shares/U/torrents/temp",

• "watch-dir": "/mnt/shares/U/torrents/start",

• Configuration is complete. Login into the Web Interface and enable Transmission Torrent Client under "Services --> Amod " page.
• For adding any new torrent just  upload / copy .torrent file to "torrents/start" folder. Transmission will automatically pick it up and once download is completed will move the completed download to "torrents/downloads". "/torrents/temp" folder will be used to hold files during download process.

Automatic water pump switch Off

Here is a simple a circuit for switching Off a water upon once the water level reaches a desired level. The probes can be just a pair of bare copper wires which works on the conductance of water or it can be replaced by a float switch. 

The circuit is based on RS Flip Flop, which is set by the "Push to ON" switch and reset by the Probe.  A Capacitor of 1 mf can be added in parallel to the Switch ON switch for auto power ON when power is restored.
